Conformation (Click On Individual Photos To Enlarge) Although we play mostly in the field these days (where natural and trained field talent is a major concern), it is still very important that our dogs possess the structure and movement that enable them to endure a long and difficult day’s hunt, and also the correct type that is representative of the breed standard. We pride ourselves on being able to maintain the brains, beauty, and temperament, which make each breed unique. Both of us started with Golden Retrievers as our first conformation dogs. Sherie, of course, was natural at dog handling, and consequently always did well in the show ring with a quality animal. Clint, on the other hand, was, and is, only used for filler, in order to build points for the “other” dogs, as his show handling skills are very suspect. From Goldens, to Cockers, Labradors, Greyhounds, Dalmatians, Shelties, Bull Terriers, German Shepherds, and of course, Flat-coats, Sherie has show handled many different breeds successfully. Unfortunately, due to the time involved on the road and the demands of a full time job, Sherie now only occasionally shows her own dogs, and mostly at local shows. Our friend, Nancy Sullenger (Golden Retrievers and Border Terriers), is usually called upon when it is time for our dogs to go to shows. With retirement from our current jobs approaching, we anticipate greater future participation in the conformation arena, but for now, will mostly send our dogs out with Nancy, who presents a beautifully groomed and well mannered (hahaha) specimen to the judges. It is truthfully a joy to look back at some of the beautiful and multi-faceted dogs that we have either shown or owned, whether it was Sherie taking Winners Dog and Best of Winners with friend Debbie Weigle’s, “Pekay’s One Hell Of A Chance” from the 12 to 18 month class at the 1984 Golden Retriever National Specialty, to winning Best of Breed at a Cocker Spaniel Specialty with her dog, Teddy. Also, watching our Flat-coat, Rodney (Am Can CH Sandpipers Lickerish Stix CDX JH CGC) placing in the groups, and becoming ranked within the breed, with his handler and breeder, Patty Pace, was always inspiring. Banjo (CH Athena's Alabama Banjo). Sherie and Harrison (Bear Country's Air Force One). Sherie and Fever (CH Twin Oaks Spring Fever MH WCX ***) (see gone but not forgotten). Sherie and Banjo. Sherie and Cappy (Pekay's San Juan Capistrano). Nancy Sullenger and Jamie. Sherie and Pearlie (see gone but not forgotten). Sherie and Rodney (see gone but not forgotten). Sherie and Windy (see gone but not forgotten). Sherie and Banjo. Sherie and Barbara, Nancy Sullenger with Debbie Weigle's Casey Sherie w/Kahlua taking 2nd in BBE at GRCA Natl. Specialty.
