Field
(Click On Individual Photos To Enlarge) The following photos are dedicated to our involvement with field training, hunt tests, and field trials over the years. We are currently members of the Middle Tennessee Amateur Retriever Club (AKC Hunt Tests and Field Trials), Central Kentucky Retriever Club (AKC Hunt Tests), and Music City Hunting Retriever Club (UKC Hunt Tests). These photos represent seminars, workshops, training days, club grounds work days, hunt tests, field trials, and national specialties that we have participated in either directly or indirectly. There are many different club members, friends, and exhibitors, which have all shared in our experiences along the way. They have enlightened our lives through our common love of retrievers and dog work.

Some friends that we trained with included Ed Zawodny, Leslie Phillips, Mitch White, Jody Barth, Matt Griffiths, Nate Lester, and Dan Wegner. Our son, Billy, was invaluable as a bird boy and helper. We trained Labs, Flat-coats, and Tollers. An effort was made to jazz the dogs up and get them back into the training mode after a winter layoff by using friendly setups with dead ducks and flyers, lots of singles off of multiple guns, walking singles, marking drills, drill work, yard work in the Double T, and confidence blinds. After having many colder days this winter, we also had a few days that were warm enough to let the dogs retrieve in the water. Everyone had a blast and used this time to knock the rust off and get rid of the cobwebs. By the end of an almost three week period, the dogs were looking like they were approaching being ready for competition again as they were performing quite well. Fun was had by all, and the food was magnificent. Sherie attended a second "Retriever Retreat" ( www.retrieverretreat.com ) in the spring of 2007, this time in Mississippi where she again took Jamie as her training companion. Here are some photos taken during that excursion. Sherie and Jamie were also selected for, and attended the advanced division of Avery Outdoors', "Training In The Timber" in late spring/early summer. This was held in Stuttgart, Arkansas (widely known as the "duck capital" of the world), and was also sponsored by Mack's Prairie Wings. The following photos are from Sherie and Jamie's trip to the "duck capital". Thanks to Mack's Prairie Wings and Avery Outdoors for hosting a spectacular dog training event! Hunt test setups with camo. Some field/classroom instruction and demonstration. Running the big marks, and playing around in the dog blind. Yard work and tuning up the basics. More instruction and demos. A local visitor flying by to check out the action. This is a photo of Jonathan King's "Daisy", King Henry's Tennessee Daisy completing her Junior Hunter Title at the Ft. Detroit Golden Retriever Club Hunt Test in July 2009. Here are a couple of photos of Eli Bates' Buck getting some tune up work before duck season. |
