Bix’s name came from Bix Biederbeck a famous Jazz trumpet player from our area. (Remember I teach Band!) Bix came to our family at 5 mo. from Canada. He has been a wonderful addition to our family. We have 3 intact males in our household and they actually enjoy each other’s company. How many breeds can say that? Bix loves people, especially children, working and snuggling. He is very biddable and eager to please but is not too soft and takes correction well. When hunted last year he worked very close with a minimal amount of training. I think he has a better nose than most dogs and is a natural tracker. My intention is to solidify his marking and blind work over the winter and spring then run junior and senior concurrently in the spring/summer of 2007.
What you might like to know is that he is now the Grant elementary school
therapy dog and has a couple of hundred+ kids who lead his fan club!
I certified him with Delta Dogs this winter and we've been working slowly
into the school building. 1 day a week...2....
Now he works full time. He is a tired puppy at the end of the day.
Friday afternoon when I went down to pick him up and go home, he was lying
on the floor in front of the office with 2 little girls laying on either
side of him, one girl had her arm wrapped over his back...They were
seriously CUTE and WHY do I never have a camera when I need one.
Seriously, he has been a great asset to the school. The kids love him and
he has helped diffuse quite a few situations with students behavior and
emotional problems. He may never be a MH but I think he may have found a
higher calling. (He may also be the BEST hunting dog I've ever had!) Alyce Spoto
